Most of the backs were coated with shoe polish to preserve the actual obverse of the coin, but once in awhile, an elongated with a blank back fell into the hopper
These are vintage items rolled many years ago by the original designer, (sometimes engraver), and roller
1982 cents are a tossup, both types were rolled, but they can be determined by weight
