The Krugerrand 1oz fine gold coin was introduced by the South African government in 1967 without the purpose of being a legal tender in this issuing country At that point, the Western countries declined the importation of the Krugerrand 1oz gold coin, barriers that were dissolved in 1994 Krugerrand 1oz Gold Coin Design The reverse of the Krugerrand 1oz gold coin depicts a springbok antelope in its habitat At the top of the coin is the inscription KRUGERRAND and at the bottom FYNGOUD 1 OZ FINE GOLD The Krugerrand is 32.77 mm in diameter and 2.84 mm thick The Krugerrand's actual weight is 1.0909 troy ounces (33.93 g) It is minted from gold alloy that is 91.67% pure (22 karats ), so the coin contains one troy ounce (31.1035 g) of gold
