THE SIZE IS 18.3 MM AND 4.34 GRAMS
OBVERSE – Legend often fragmentary, facing busts of Constans, with long beard on left, wearing plumed helmet, and Constantine, beardless, on right, crowned
REVERSE – d Constantine, beardless, on right, crowned
The solidus was struck at a rate of 72 to a Roman pound of pure gold, each coin weighing twenty-four Greco-Roman carats, or about 4.5 grams of gold per coin
The solidus was maintained essentially unaltered in weight and purity until the 10th century
