THE SIZE IS 20.7 MM AND 4.34 GRAMS
OBVERSE – DN FOCAS PERP AVG, draped and cuirassed bust facing, wearing crown, holding cross on globe
REVERSE – VICTORIA AVGUS, angel standing facing, holding staff surmounted by christogram and cross on globe
The solidus was struck at a rate of 72 to a Roman pound of pure gold, each coin weighing twenty-four Greco-Roman carats, or about 4.5 grams of gold per coin
The solidus was maintained essentially unaltered in weight and purity until the 10th century
