A lovely token, the obverse features Saint Andrew with his distinct cross, the patron Saint of Scotland, while the reverse shows the Arms of the city of Edinburgh Medium tan-brown, the surfaces hard to the eye, with a few light marks from circulation visible with a glass, and a small reverse nick at the edge at the left Though Scottish in nature and circulation these were actually produced in England, and the dies were cut in Birmingham by J. G. Hancock, Senior who also apparently also minted them In the end, perhaps as many as 8,000 different token varieties were struck (including different edge variations and pieces made specifically for collectors)
