This is a lovely 45.7 mm 25.39 gm plain edged silvered white metal temperance medal struck for the Rechabites by The Ottley firm, medalists in Birmingham, England 1820-90
Obv. INDEPENDENT ORDER OF RECHABITES / THE SONS OF RECHAB DRINK NO WINE OR STRONG DRINK around Rechabite seal, PEACE & PLENTY REWARD OF TEMPERANCE on ribbon below
Obverse die is somewhat rusty, but the medal still has some traces of the silvering
Rev. FOR HE SHALL BE GREAT IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD AND SHALL DRINK NEITHER WINE NOR STRONG DRINK around a scene of Jesus teaching his disciples, OTTLEY / LUKE C. 1. V. 15
The spacing between "Lord" and "and" at the top of the reverse shows that this medal was created to be holed
