These coins are known as "provincial" coins because they were minted by one of the Roman Emperors within one of the Roman Provinces generally using Greek nomenclature
There were a huge number of these coins minted mostly in the second and third centuries
The obverse of the coin depicts the personification of the Roman Senate
They were under the authority of the Empire It was often seen as a “cult” between the reigning Emperor, the Roman Senate, and the city or region in which the coin was minted
